But before diving headlong into this, spare a thought for small business suppliers if the £500 tender limit comes into effect this might have the opposite effect – tendering to public sector is a long winded and expensive process currently and far from helping the small guy might actually make it worse. Certainly I wouldn’t support councils having to retender for every addition to an existing product or service. Having a strong supplier relationship has value too, it’s not just the initial cost that matters, you need to be able to trust a supplier to deliver to keep costs in check ongoing. Just hope they think this through a bit more…
